Join us for Professional Literacy from the Classroom to Practice, an interactive PRSA panel designed to help bridge the gap between academic training and real‑world PR expectations.
📅 Friday, February 27
⏰ 11:30 am to 1 pm | BYOL - Bring your own lunch
📍 490 S Center St, Reno, NV 89501 — Collaboratory Room
The intergenerational panel will bring together students, educators and industry professionals to discuss gaps between classroom writing and real-world expectations. Panelists will address common misconceptions about press release distribution, the role of wire services and the ethical and strategic misuse of press releases. The discussion will feature a senior PRSA practitioner, a faculty member, a Bateman student and an early—career public relations professional. Panelists will emphasize that understanding distribution tools such as Access Newswire is a key part of professional literacy, even for practitioners who may never directly use a wire service.
Bateman team members will share how they serve as a bridge between education and practice, reflecting on how they learned to evaluate when a press release adds value and when alternative communication strategies are more effective. The luncheon will frame Access Newswire as an educational tool rather than a product, reinforcing the importance of understanding how press releases move through media ecosystems and influence coverage decisions.
