Vanessa Vancour, Marketing Strategy Manager, Resolute Capital Partners, LTD

In 2017, Vanessa Vancour delivered a TEDx talk titled "I'm Mexican, Does that Change Your Assumptions about Me?" In the talk, she provides tactical tips on managing your own biases and preconceived notions - a subject she is passionate about addressing with organizations and professionals in a variety of industries. Vancour is a former TV anchor with a passion for bilingual storytelling and community engagement. She has made a career out of working to improve diversity of coverage in newsrooms through mentorship and leadership. One of her largest initiatives is the creation of Noticiero Móvil, a bilingual news program aimed at improving coverage of Latinx issues in northern Nevada. Vancour taught social journalism, community engagement and bilingual news reporting in Reno, Nev. for six years. She is also a public speaker and speaker coach and consults with non-profit executive boards on diversity initiatives.
Bret Simmons, Associate Professor of Management; Curator, TEDxReno

Bret L. Simmons, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Management at the University of Nevada. He founded TEDxUniversityofNevada in 2012 and held the first event for an audience of 100 on the UNR campus in 2013. Simmons and his team grew the event to an attendance of 1700 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in 2020. Videos from TEDxUniversityofNevada have combined for more than 70 million views online. TEDxReno was started up again in May 2020 and a small virtual event was held in June 2020. The TEDxReno team looks to host its next event in June 2021.
